Playing Games

If you've been reading my blog for long (hey, JoAnn!), you know that I love to play games. The old fashioned type like Scrabble, Uno, dominoes, etc. Any card or board game you can imagine, I'm a sucker for it. During lunch at work for almost three years we played Scrabble. Then we all decided to try something new. We tried Boggle. Lots of fun, but one of the lunch group is a PRO at it and wins every single game. I swear! She's a freaking genius at it. So we tease her that we quit playing because everyone was tired of shooting for second place.  LOL!

So now we play dominoes Monday through Thursday and then on Fridays we play Uno. Lunch on Fridays are 30 minutes long so we get to leave early. After a hard long week, it's nice to know you don't have to stay the full eight hours.  And yes, a half hour makes a difference. The game goes quickly, so we have enough time to get anywhere between five to twenty hands.

What kind of card/board games do you like?

Bond, James Bond

When I started writing The Circle series, it was my thank you to La Femme Nikita. Loved that series. The current Nikita series is okay, but it doesn't have the same feel.

My 'love affair' with spy and assassin movies/books started long before Nikita. For years, the only ones out there in books and movies were directed and produced for men to watch. Well, that is until Pierce Brosnan. By the time he was James Bond, the character became a little bit more PC, though I have to say (thankfully), he was still the James Bond that we all loved, macho, sexy and wanting every beautiful woman he met. Of course, the older Bonds were ruggedly handsome and women did watch the movies for them.

So when I wrote Desire, I wanted her to be a female James Bond, love 'em and leave 'em type of woman.

Plus I loved the quirkiness of the Bond series. Think about it, zombies, flying in space, invisible cars, gold painted girls, hats that can cut heads off, and many more. They're all extreme but make the books/movies different than others.

That's why my books are a little extreme. Please don't read them as a manual for being a spy or assassin. They're purely entertainment, fantasy you could say. I'm always surprised by how some people get all up in arms about the quirkiness.

Then again, those people are too serious by far and need to read more books like mine.

Circle of Danger Excerpt

In my book, I pay homage to Anne Stuart's Reno, the sexy hero in her book FIRE AND ICE.   Excerpt from CIRCLE OF DANGER, available in e-format now and in paperback 6/19:

At the other end, two guards had the arms of a man with neon blue hair pulled back into a long braid. He used their hold to jump up and twist his body, taking the men down with him. Before they could recover, the man was running toward her.

“Move!” Ryker shoved her behind him. “Stop a**hole.” He pointed his gun toward the threat.
The man slid to a stop. He slowly raised his hands and focused his dark almond-shaped eyes on Ryker.
“Collin Ryker sent me.” Instead of the expected Asian accent, he spoke English with a slight drawl. “The Wizard has something of mine. So you can let me go with you to find him or I’ll follow.”
“How’s it going, Ice?” Jack moved to the side and nodded toward the man. “My brother’s still having problems with his ex-fiancĂ© since she’s working with him now?”
“A. J.?” Ice Takahashi cocked his head. “I stay out of Rex’s business. Safer that way.”
Ryker knew of Ice, that he’d acquired his name from what ran through his veins. Of all the stories bandied about, one was that he’d tracked down and killed his own father.
If a man didn’t protect his family, he was a man not to be trusted.
In Ryker’s way of thinking, a good reason for him to leave.
“I don’t give a d*mn what he has of yours.” Ryker lifted his chin.
“Go back to Collin and tell him to keep his nose out of my business.”
“He said you would say that. He told me to tell you that you owe him.”
Ryker straightened his shoulders and stepped closer to the man.
  “I don’t owe him jack-sh*t.”
“He said you took his kill.” Those cold dark eyes stared back.
Ryker knew most would agree he had the greater right to the kill if they knew all of the facts.
“Boss, you want me to throw him out?” Liam shouldered his way through the crowd surrounding Ice.
Ryker had to give his little brother credit. Collin was a smart man.   He had to be to escape Theo’s perverted clutches all those years ago. If only Ryker had known too. The years of pain and depravity the man had forced on him. The way he made him beg. Now wasn’t the time to think of that.
His brother was known for being a master strategist. Whatever reason he sent Ice would most likely be revealed in its own good time.
Ryker nodded. “Okay. Jack’ll get you up to speed on our plan.”

Top 10 Suspense iBookstore

UPDATE 6/16/12 4:38 PM
Look at who popped up when iBookstore set the sub-category (genre) correctly on Circle of Desire!
Rank under iBookstore Suspense!

Rank under iBookstore ROMANCE

Circle of Danger on June 5, 2012 - #3 Suspense - iBookstore.
It's bouncing around in the top 10 even today. The crazy thing was for a while Circle of Deception was ranked higher than Danger the last week of May in (over all) Romance. Circle of Desire is floating out there, still doing okay and improved somewhat after Danger came out even though it doesn't have a sub-category (like Suspense). My editor is having Desire's category corrected. So we'll see how it turns up in the rankings.  YAY!

Of course, any other sites like GoodReads, Kobo, Books-a-Million, etc. And my favorite iBookstore. Circle of Danger is still in the top 10 under Suspense. Cool, isn't it?

Day Eight - June 10th open

LOL!  I placed this marker on my blog posts to remember that it was open and then forgot I did it. LOL!  As you can tell, I'm not visiting a blog today (except my own).  So between going to the grocery store, having lunch with a Facebook friend (Hey Deborah!) and writing, it will be a little calmer.

Though I still have another blog post to finish and emailed out before Wednesday.

Yesterday, I wrote on the WIP, met a good friend for lunch, wrote a complete long post (didn't mean for it to be so long) that will show up Monday on, corrected a list of emails on MailChimp that I ended up not using (hate when that happens) and prepared a brand spanking new newsletter for my writers group and mailed it out to a new list of emails I added in Outlook. Whew!  I finished all that at nearly three this morning.

Next weekend doesn't look any better. My oldest daughter is moving into her new house Saturday and I must help. It's only right. And Sunday is Father's Day and I will be traveling to see my dad. Somehow I'll get more writing in between all of that. Summers are always crazy and it appears I will always be under deadline.  Thus is life.
